Objective CEV moto2 2010.

Those of you who follow this blog know that last April we “freezed” our moto2 project due to the change in the rules made by Dorna. With this change the bikes changed from a free engine choice to a single engine model made by Honda.

This change was for the World Championship, but the rules for the CEV (Spanish championship) remained unclear. In fact right now currently we have 2 moto2 bikes powered by a Yamaha R6 engine racing in the CEV (LaGlisse and Promoracing bikes). So we decided to wait till the rules were more defined.
Finally that moment arrived some days ago, when Dorna made public his intentions for the CEV 2010.. finally the engine will be the Honda one:
“In Moto2 the minimum age will be 15, and the bikes will require a Honda CBR 600 RR engine. The chassis must be a prototype, not derived from a production model, that conforms with the technical and safety regulations established by the FIM for their Grand Prix counterparts. The single tyre rule will also be in place. Any possibility of modification in engine parts will be heavily restricted.”
To tell you the truth I thought that finally the CEV moto2 rules would remain with a free engine choice. The reason is that a lot of teams that race in the CEV have some kind of support from the motorcycle brands (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Triumph) and having a single engine manufacturer (Honda) those teams that race with other brands won’t have that support. For these teams, taking into account the current economic crisis, it will be very difficult to find the necessary budget to approach a CEV moto2 season.

It is going to be quite an adventure, both in the technical and economic aspects, but I think that the experience is going to be worth the effort. So in Bottpower we go back to work in order to build a moto2 bike with a Honda engine.

I will explain the process it in this blog.
